Udemy revenue share calculator

Udemy pays instructors 97% of a sale made with their own coupon or referral link and 37% of every other sale, so it keeps 3% or 63%. Both shares are of the Net Amount: what the student paid, less tax and fees such as Apple's or Google's 30% on sales in their apps. A $20 sale leaves you $7.40 from Udemy's marketplace and $19.40 through your own link. Hosting a course is free.

Quick answers

How much does Udemy take per sale?

63% of a sale from its marketplace, where no instructor coupon or referral link was used, and 3% of a sale through your own coupon or link. On a $20 course that's $12.60 or $0.60. On sales in the iOS or Android app, Apple's or Google's 30% comes off first.

What is Udemy's revenue share for instructors?

97% of the Net Amount when the student buys with the instructor's coupon or referral link, 37% for every other Udemy sale, for example after the student clicks a Udemy ad or browses the marketplace.

Does Udemy charge instructors a fee?

No. There is no fee to create and host a course on Udemy, and you can publish as many free and paid courses as you like. Udemy is paid through its share of each sale.

Does the app store fee come out of the instructor's share?

Yes. The share is of the Net Amount, after the 30% Apple or Google takes on app sales: a $20 marketplace sale in the app leaves you $5.18, against $7.40 on the web.

How do instructors earn from Udemy Business and Personal Plan?

Udemy puts 15% of each month's Udemy Business subscription revenue into an instructor pool and splits it by minutes watched: if your courses had 3% of all minutes that month, you get 3% of the pool. Personal Plan and Starter Plan pay the same way. It depends on the whole catalogue, so the calculator leaves it out.

The same sales on your own site

100 sales of $20 a month leave you $740 on Udemy if they all come from its marketplace and $1,940 if they all come through your link. On your own site, the platform that leaves the most for one course, Systeme.io (Free), leaves $1,912 after its subscription, fees and card processing; you'd have to bring every student yourself.

Through your own link, Udemy's 3% is less than standard US card processing, 2.9% + $0.30, on any sale under $300.
